Nicola said: “For me it’s the best of both worlds.

“Being able to use the skills and qualities I’ve spent a career developing.

“And also being based at home and having the time to take things slowly and help young people make necessary changes at their own pace.”

Cllr Ivan Ould, the county council’s cabinet member for children and families, said: “This event has a focus on the very important work of specialist carers, who work with young people with complex needs.

“If you have experience of working or caring for young people at a critical time in their lives, then specialist foster caring may be perfect for you and we would love you to come along to the event.”

Specialist carers receive generous financial allowances based on their skills, bespoke training and 24-hour support.

The get-together will be held at 6.30pm on Wednesday February 12 at County Hall in Glenfield.
