Church-goers across Harborough are setting up a rota to pray for 24 hours a day for 10 days from Thursday May 21.

They are backing an international “prayer wave” called Thy Kingdom Come - which is observed by 65 Christian denominations in 178 countries.

It covers the period from Ascension Day on Thursday to Pentecost (Whit Sunday) on May 31.

The annual event, launched by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016, aims to persuade more people to “come to an active and personal Christian faith”.

However, it is also used more widely as a dedicated period of prayer focusing on bigger community, national and international issues.

There will be no central prayer room for people to attend this year due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

But a virtual prayer room is being set up.

That features a “prayer wall” or blog for people to contribute their thoughts, prayers and insights that others can see.

It is moderated for security.

There is a wide range of prayer resources on the website - hosted by the Harborough Anglican Team on behalf of all the town’s churches.

A catalogue of streamed prayer events will also be staged.

You are invited to book a one-hour slot so that the entire 24 hours are covered for the 10-day period.

If you haven’t got access to the internet you can book a slot by phone via their church leader.

You will find all the details at http://www.harborough-anglican.org.uk/thy-kingdom-come

The huge prayer effort is being endorsed by the Executive Committee of Churches Together in Harborough.
