It was a candle-lit Valentine’s Day evening for scores of villagers near Market Harborough last night – after their homes were blacked out.

Couples and families were forced to turn the clock back and turn to romantic candle light after about 160 houses in Foxton and the Langtons lost their power at about 6.30pm.

Most customers were switched back on within the hour, said Western Power Distribution, but about 40 homes in West Langton had to wait over four hours to be reconnected.

The blackout was sparked by a fault with an overhead power line, said the power supply giant.
