A busy Market Harborough newsagents and post office has saluted their “fantastic” paperkids during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Keya News, based on Logan Street, off Coventry Road, said a huge thank-you to their 11 paperboys and girls as well as to their loyal band of customers.

Bhumika Patel runs the popular shop with her husband Ankur Patel and his sister Jinal Patel on behalf of owners Chirag and Swati Patel.

“We have nine paperboys and two papergirls aged from 13-16 and they’ve been brilliant,” said Bhumika.

“They are all local kids and they have worked for us every single day throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’d just like to give them all a big pat on the back.

“We have been delivering more Harborough Mails and national newspapers than ever before over the last few weeks and we couldn’t have done it without them.”

She also praised the community for their unstinting support since the Covid-19 lockdown started in March.

People around here in Market Harborough have really got behind us.

“We have stayed open throughout the crisis from start to finish.

“We are proud to have offered the community a vital service in this strange time,” said Bhumika.

“As well as offering newspapers and a wide range of food and household goods, our post office service has also thrived.

“People found it easier to pop into their local shop on the corner rather than go into town and queue at a bigger store.

“We’ve also been carrying out free deliveries to customers in Market Harborough and that’s been very well received.”

She said youngsters have been sticking up their drawings and paintings of rainbows supporting NHS heroes in their shop window and urging people to stay home.

“We handed out goody bags to 15 or 16 kids who brought their pictures and they loved it.

“Shoppers have been telling us how much they like the drawings and how grateful they are that we stayed open all the way through,” said Bhumika.

“We are very proud to serve this amazing community and we’ll continue to do our very best for each and every customer.”
