More than 9,000 residents have signed up for the new green bin collection service, which was the target set by Harborough District Council when it introduced the subscription.
Last year, the district council announced a new £40 per bin annual subscription fee for garden waste collections applicable from April 4.
Cllr Phil King, Harborough District Council’s financial and commercialisation portfolio holder, said: “We are pleased with the uptake of the garden waste service from residents of Harborough district and would like to thank them for taking the time to do so. Already over 25 per cent of households have subscribed and we expect that more households will be prompted to subscribe by the beginning of the growing season.”
To sign up, visit www.harborough.gov.uk/green-bin or call 01858 828282 to get a green bin sticker, which entitles residents to have their green bins emptied fortnightly between the months of April and November 2016, and during March 2017. Garden waste collections will not take place during the winter months of December, January and February.
