Harborough District Council and Leicester Shire Promotions have formed a new partnership to grow the tourism economy in the district.

As part of this partnership, Graham Peers has been recruited as the new tourism executive for the district.

Cllr Blake Pain, leader of Harborough District Council, said: “I’d like to welcome Graham to this new role.

“There is a great opportunity to harness Harborough district’s tourism offer and I’m sure this role will continue to build on our existing strengths and explore the massive culture and tourism potential.”

Graham joins from Zurich Insurance and brings 20 years’ experience to his new role. He will be responsible for working with local tourism businesses, encouraging the take-up of tourism services and opportunities.

The new post is funded by Harborough District Council. Graham will work across the district and with Leicester Shire Promotions.

Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, added: “Harborough has a strong offer for leisure visitors including Market Harborough itself, Foxton Locks, Kilworth House, Lutterworth, Wistow Maze and many others. This partnership and Graham’s appointment will provide a greater focus on the development of this offer whilst improving the visitor experience.

“This will help to increase the value of tourism to the economy of Harborough district and Leicestershire.”
