New plan for 150 homes in Fleckney village

The plan submitted by David Wilson Homes proposes the large new estate for a site flanked by Kilby Road and Coleman Road in Fleckney.

The new scheme must be added to another 300-home development already proposed by developers Persimmon at the other end of the village.

If both schemes went ahead, they would increase the population of Fleckney by about 1,000 people, or around a fifth.

Developers David Wilson say their site is “suitable and sustainable” and would include much-needed affordable housing.

But Fleckney residents have already written to the council, strongly objecting to the scheme.

They say the new homes would exacerbate traffic problems in Fleckney, swamp local facilities, affect local wildlife and cause a flooding risk.

And many protestors complain that excessive and uncontrolled housebuilding in Fleckney will turn a village into a town.

One local couple write that the David Wilson plan is a “ridiculous proposal”.

“The village does not have the infrastructure to support that many adults, children and extra cars” say Darren and Kirstie Riley, who live on Coleman Road in the village.

Fleckney Parish Council chair Suzanne Wyche said: “The parish council has yet to meet on this new scheme, but I can say there is strong feeling in the village about it.

“What the parish council would normally do is represent the views of the village.”
