Tickets for this year’s Nevill Holt opera series are selling in record time.
Bizet’s much-loved musical and dramatic masterpiece Carmen is the production at Nevill Holt for 2015.
And tickets are in hot demand.
After just a week of going on sale to the public, more than 85 per cent of the tickets for the festival’s five-show run have already been sold.
The popular Saturday night slot sold-out within only three hours.
The series is now in its 13th year, and the third since businessman David Ross’s own independent team took on the organising role, after ten years being run by Hampshire-based Grange Park Opera.
Featuring leading UK artists and exciting new talent, Carmen is reuniting the creative team from last year’s acclaimed Neville Holt production of Puccini’s La Bohème.
Artistic director Nicholas Chalmers will be conducting while Ashley Page is the director and mezzo-soprano Clare Presland is starring in the title role. She has been described as “mesmerising – with an intensity that almost sears the flesh” and was the winner of the prestigious Susan Chilcott Royal Philharmonic Society Award last year.
Recent engagements have seen her appear at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and her debut performance of Carmen at Neville Holt is eagerly anticipated.
Tenor David Butt Philip, fresh from his triumph as Rodolfo in La Bohème with the English National Opera, will sing opposite her as doomed lover, Don Jose.
Carmen is running on Thursday, June 25; Saturday, June 27 (sold out); Sunday, June 28; Tuesday, June 30; and Thursday, July 2.
