A pair due to get married this summer have got more on their mind than just white dresses and honeymoons.
Dave Hemmington and Hannah Matts are not only in the midst of organising their big day, the farming couple are also in the middle of lambing season and training for a multitude of marathons.
Hannah was not quite prepared for the London Marathon, having not expected to be chosen in the ballot for the event later this month.
However, Hannah and Dave will both be running in aid of the British Lung Foundation charity in memory of Dave’s mum Rosemary Hemmington who died last July of lung cancer aged 68.
Dave said: “We lost mum to lung cancer last year. My partner was already running the London Marathon, she got a place in the ballot.
“We have done the Kibworth Marathon too.”
The pair are aiming to raise £2,000 for the charity and have already raised £1,400 to date.
As well as being in training for the London Marathon, the pair are training for The Great North Run in September.
While trying to fit in their training they have also been working the lambing season at Westview Farm.
Dave said: “In the past five or six weeks, we have been doing anywhere between 15 miles at the weekend and then doing runs during the week of about seven miles.”
The pair, who are getting married in July, take their dogs, Jack Russell Dorothy and border collie Nelly, with them on their runs.
Hannah said: “We are getting married in July and we are also lambing, doing the Great North Run and the London Marathon.”
She had applied to take part in the London Marathon before but had never been successful and hadn’t expected to get through this year.
“It must just be my lucky year,” she said.
Hannah said they have been up until midnight on some days during the lambing season.
Coupled with this, the wet weather has meant training has been especially tough but Dave said they are excited about the marathon challenge.
