Police were called to the Great Bear warehouse in Magnetic Park shortly before 4.45am to reports of a collision between two forklift trucks, in which a male victim suffered fatal injuries.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We can confirm that a man suffered fatal injuries after an incident at the Great Bear warehouse in Desborough.

“The incident has been passed on for investigation and we are unable to comment further.”

A spokesman for Kettering Council confirmed that they are working with Northants Police in the initial stages of the investigation.

A relative of a Great Bear worker, who did not want to be named, told the Northants Telegraph that people arriving for the shift starting at 6am were sent home from the warehouse.

A statement from Great Bear’s chief executive officer Glenn Lindfield read: “An incident occurred this morning, January 14 2016, at Great Bear’s warehouse facility in Desborough, Northamptonshire.

“The incident involving Material Handling Equipment (MHE) happened at approximately 0430hrs.

“Emergency crews attended the scene, but we deeply regret to report that an individual died as a result of the injuries they sustained.

“The incident is currently under investigation by the police and local authorities.”
