A generous group of Harborough fundraisers has handed over thousands of pounds to charities and good causes in the area.
Harborough Round Table celebrated its 55th charter year last year and to mark the occasion members held a gala dinner with a large raffle and charity auction which raised more than £1,500.
That cash, as well as other funds from the group, has been handed out to organisations including the Anthony Nolan Trust, which was given £750.
In addition, earlier in the summer the group made several other charitable donations to local good causes and charities including Harborough Christian Counselling Service at Bower House, and the Sunshine Playgroup in Desborough, Desborough Youth Centre and HFT Market Harborough, totalling in excess of £1,000.
Immediate past chairman, Matthew Jones, said: “As chairman for what was a very momentous year, I felt there was a great opportunity to raise more funds in addition to our Christmas collections in Harborough and Desborough.”
Current chairman, Jeremy Wilkinson, added: “Our efforts have continued this year and we shall be supporting as many charities and good causes as we possibly can.
“We attended the Harborough Carnival again this year running our It’s A Knockout competition for local schools and awarded cash prizes to schools totalling £600.
“If you are a local charity or good cause and wish to make an application for a financial donation then please write to Matthew Jones, Market Harborough Round Table, c/o The Angel Hotel, High Street, LE16 7AF. You should summarise, on one page, your organisation, its role, an idea of the amount that could help and a brief statement about how it will help the community, before October 30.”
