Shopkeepers in Market Harborough town centre have been warned to be vigilant about counterfeit Scottish notes.

The advice comes after a man was caught by one shop assistant in Harborough trying to pass off some fake £20 notes from north of the border.

The Harborough local policing unit said on Twitter: “Been educating shops on spotting counterfeit English and Scottish notes after a male proffered fake Scottish £20s around town.”

Officers have also been warning town centre shoppers this month to be wary of purse snatchers.
