Harborough’s Welland Park Academy has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, such as forging links with partner schools overseas.
Dave Hedley, chair of governors at the school, said: “The programme has provided a richer learning experience and enriched teaching practice, leadership skills and curriculum content. It has brought an international flavour to the classroom, fostering friendships internationally and shared learning with an element of fun, exploration and understanding of the world we live in.”
A spokesman for the academy added: “Welland Park Academy’s international work includes activities that involve not only our students but our local community. We have developed a sustainable partnership with a school in India over the last three years.
“Our work can be viewed on our collaborative blog snehalayalinksconnectswithwellandpark.blogspot.co.uk. During this time we have participated in six teacher exchange visits, where teachers have shared good practice, resources and experiences in England and India.”
