A popular annual wine fair is returning to Harborough next Saturday (October 8).
The fair will be held in the recently refurbished Wycliffe Rooms, in George Street.
Organisers say that last year the ‘hit’ of the show was Character Wines, a leading importer and supplier of Indian wines.
Anthony Hirons, one of the organisers, said: “India is a rapidly emerging wine economy in terms of both production and consumption, and has the potential to become a significant player on the worldwide wine scene.
“This stems from the fact that the country has consistently experienced the highest growth in consumption in the world – around 20 to 30 per cent a year between 2002 and 2010.
“To meet this demand India has a mix of well-established and evolving domestic wineries.
“Tasting Indian wine proved so popular that by mid-afternoon the company were having to take delivery orders as they ran out of bottles to sell on their stand.”
Alongside the Indian wine sellers will be others from the Association of Small Direct Wine Merchants (ASDW) such as Bordeaux and Beyond with French wines and Hyde Park Wines.
A specialist importer of Italian wines based in Oakham will also be in attendance.
The fair runs from midday to 6pm. Entry is £3 and proceeds go to county charities.
