If you can smell gas in the Harborough area, here is why

The 24-inch diameter pipe broke in a farmer’s field near the McDonald’s roundabout off the A6.

A spokeswoman for gas distribution giant Cadent Gas said teams worked until late on Tuesday night to patch up the main.

“There’s been no disruption to traffic because the pipe is in a field well away from the road.

“No-one’s been cut off or lost their gas supply either,” she said.

“We’ve had a number of calls from people reporting the leak because there’s a strong smell of gas in the area.

“But it’s nothing dramatic, it’s just been caused by wear and tear over the years.”
