Hundreds gather to watch the Flying Scotsman's historic journey
Some of the townsfolk of Market Harborough made the short journey to Harringworth, to join hundreds of onlookers who witnessed the Flying Scotsman make its historic journey across the longest masonry viaduct in Britain.
Large crowds gathered on low and high points as the famous train - the first steam locomotive in the world to reach speeds of 100mph - chugged across the viaduct in Harringworth at 10.30am on Saturday.
Travelling from London to York, following its decade-long £4.2 million restoration, the 60103 engine crossed into the county from Bedfordshire and passed through Wellingborough train station. It then stopped at Kettering station to pick up passengers - where it was delayed as it had to refill with water - before steaming on through Corby station and finally - 30 minutes late - chugging across the viaduct’s 82 arches.
