A charity event in Church Langton has raised a total of £8,301 for Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Leicestershire.
Martine Browne, Emily Moss, Sukhjit Minhas and Jane Lawton organised a Bollywood evening in Church Langton Community Hall on November 28 last year for villagers, friends and family to help the Rainbows charity, which offers care and support to life-limited children and their families throughout Leicestershire and the rest of the East Midlands.
The evening was hosted by former Leicester Tigers star Tim Stimpson and was sponsored by many local businesses. The evening featured Indian dancing by The Bollywood Twins, an auction of donated items hosted by Kal Sangra and a five course Asian meal.
The four organisers told Rainbows that their original plan had been to raise £1,000 by holding a coffee morning. Encouraged by new Church Langton resident Sukhjit Minhas, the four friends decided to be more adventurous and bring Bollywood to The Langtons.
Martine, Emily, Sukhjit and Jane said they were delighted with the amount raised by the event, which far exceeded their expectations.
In a joint statement, they added: “We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the evening such a big success.”
Rainbows Children’s Hospice was founded in 1994 and is the East Midlands’ only specialised hospice for children.
