Most people, when deciding to get fit for 2015, will probably have joined a gym or taken up running.
But not Katie Buncombe, who owns the RK Pet Supplies stall at Harborough Market.
As someone with asthma, Katie wanted to find something that would not only raised her fitness levels, but also offered a real opportunity to truly challenge herself.
So she has signed herself up to the combative ultra white collar boxing.
Never heard of it?
Well, neither had Katie until very recently.
And to add some spice to her new pursuit she is also combining it with a charity event in aid of Cancer Research UK
“Ultra white collar boxing first began in New York, but has been steadily growing in the UK over the past five years,” Katie explained.
“It’s entirely for novices; eight weeks of training is provided and it’s a great way to try something completely different and out of my comfort zone.”
Katie’s training programme will culminate in a a boxing bout at Kettering Conference Centre on Saturday March 28.
She will be matched against an opponent of a similar size and ability.
She said: “I would say I am more excited than nervous at the minute, but ask me again before the fight and it may be a different answer!’
Katie is using the experience to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
It is early days but she has already raised £310.
Katie added: “I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the traders and customers at Harborough Market who have sponsored me so far.
“Cancer Research UK is such a worthy cause and close to all of us.
“I’m proud to be fundraising for them.”
To sponsor Katie, pop along to her stall at the town’s market, in Northampton Road, from Tuesdays to Saturdays or visit her fundraising website at www.justgiving.com/Katie-Buncombe.
