Cheques totalling almost 700 were presented to three local good causes from the Rotary Club of Market Harborough

Good causes in the Harborough area were given a boost by the Rotary Club of Harborough during a recent cash handover.

The recipients were the South Leicestershire Toy Lending Library, the Market Harborough Community Service vehicle and Mencap Residential Care Homes, Market Harborough.

The money had been given by the people of the town, at the Rotarians’ street collection last Christmas Eve.

Harborough Rotary president Les Dodd said “The Christmas Eve street collection is a long-standing tradition of this Rotary club.

“Although it is often bad weather, we find the people of the town can be very generous, so it is worth us getting cold and wet.

“We are grateful to the people who gave the money.

“We are pleased that the donations given on Christmas Eve can be used to support these three, active, local good causes.”

Representatives from the three groups attended a recent meeting of the Rotary club, at the Waterfront Restaurant to receive their cheques.

John Feavyour and Liz Robbins were from the Community Service vehicle, Stella Renwick from the South Leicestershire Toy Lending Library and Alison Barwick and resident Robert Wheeler from Mencap.
