A celebration of Harborough’s 20 successful years of taking part in Britain in Bloom is taking place at the Old Grammar School and the Symington Building next Friday (August 5).

A display of the town’s awards in East Midlands in Bloom and in the national competition has been arranged at the Symington Building and to further promote the event people of all ages are being invited to the Old Grammar School to help create a flower and summer bug garland which will be used to decorate the exhibition case.

Jane Tugwell, from Harborough Museum, is one of the organisers.

She said: “You will be able to find out some fun flower facts and more about our blooming successes in a flowery trail around the building.

“Drop in anytime on Friday from 11am to 4pm.”

Harborough Embroiderers Guild representatives will be on hand to help adults make small decorations for the garland, while youngsters can make flowers and bugs as well.

The event coincides with the visit to Harborough of the judges from Britain in Bloom.

Jane added: “We want to show them how the community gets involved with the Bloom campaign.”
