European Bantaa patrol from 1st Bowdens Scouts won the decades-old Fraser Shield after a closely-fought competition against troops from across the Harborough District during a camping trip to the Oaks campsite in Charnwood at the weekend.

Now in its 103rd year, the shield is awarded every year to the patrol team which has the most points for its camping standards, including pitching and striking, cooking and keeping the camp tidy.

Debbie Billington, Harborough District Scouts Commissioner and a judge of the contest, said: “It was a close run competition with very high standards. The highlight for many patrols was skinning rabbits and cooking them.”
