Group member Alison Orton, who works as a sales negotiator for estate agent Andrew Granger and Co, explained her reasons for taking part.

She said: “A friend of mine Sonia was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and a group of us from the local school decided to show our support for her by undertaking the challenge. We never expected to raise so much and we can’t thank those who have donated enough.”

The Harborough-based team completed the 20th anniversary of the MoonWalk in London as part of the FoxyLadies16 group earlier this year.

The money raised has been steadily rising since they completed the walk, and has now reached to grand total of £5,600.

The event, organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, involves a 26.2 mile route around the capital’s iconic landmarks throughout the night with walkers dressed in themed bras - the 2016 theme was “Carnival”.

The group originally set themselves the target of raising at least £50 each.

Alison added: “It truly was a great event. It not only gave us the platform to raise this amazing amount of money, but it also helped to keep ours and Sonia’s spirits high - she even joined us on the walk.”

MoonWalk is the first event of its kind that Alison had taken part in since finishing a Race for Life event with colleagues at Andrew Granger estate agency.

Mark Sandall, managing director at Andrew Granger was quick to pass on his congratulations to the group.

He added: “What these ladies have achieved is amazing.

“They have certainly put the men in the office to shame and I’m sure it will inspire us to look into a new charity fundraising event.

“Everybody here was very supportive of what Alison was trying to achieve.”
