Flippers take a turn for the batter with races

Villagers in Great Bowden continued an annual tradition with their pancake races fun event on Sunday afternoon.

And they have hit on an ingenious idea to solve the problem of flimsy, soggy and oft-falling pancakes – tortillas!

Six mixed teams of four people took to The Green for a relay battle. It was marked into a square with each team member given a length of the quad to complete.

The overall winners were Knights End Road with Battered Tossers runners-up and Gorgeous Girls in third.

The children’s contest was won by eight-year-old James Hooper.

There was a good turnout from villagers with attendance slightly down due to the weather and the half-term break.

The event was organised by the Great Bowden Festival committee, which is also behind the wacky tug-of-war and wheelie-bins races which take place in August.
