Fire destroys over 500 tonnes of straw bales in a village near Harborough - the second straw fire in three days

The fire comes just three days after arsonists destroyed over 1,000 bales of straw at West Langton – just four miles away

The ferocious blaze broke out in a field off Valley Road, Weston by Welland, in pitch-black darkness at about 12.25am today.

The fire comes just three days after arsonists destroyed over 1,000 bales of straw at Patricia Walker’s Langton Hall Farm at West Langton – just four miles away.

About 15 firefighters from Desborough, Corby and Kettering rushed to tackle the latest blaze when the alarm was raised just after midnight today.

The three crews battled fierce flames all night and one crew was still at the scene this morning damping down burning straw.

The cause of the fire is not yet known as specialist Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service investigators are set to carry out a full investigation.
