The committee behind the successful Market Harborough Christmas Fayre event last month have announced its final fundraising figure.

They also issued a huge thank you to all the businesses and individuals who got behind it, donated, sponsored, volunteered and opened their shops to join in.

Sofi Vaughan, the committee’s chairman, said: “We wanted this event to be about Harborough businesses and wanted to open the event to the side streets of our beautiful town and the result was fantastic.”

The event raised a surplus of about £6,000. The proceeds will now be distributed to local groups and organisations.

Sofi said: “In view of the tremendous result, we should be able to distribute a significantly higher amount than in previous years even after retaining a float for this year.”

The committee is now inviting groups to apply for a share of the cash. Applications should be sent to Sofi Vaughan, 34 Lathkill Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 9EY.

The Fayre held on Friday, December 5, replaced the Late Night Shopping event.

An estimated 5,000 people attended.

Sofi added: “I really hope people saw how important the Fayre was for the town and also how fun it was.

“We all loved the challenge of making it happen and cannot wait to start planning this the 2015 event.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the town so well done Harborough. We did it!”

She said the committee was overwhelmed with the amount of people who helped and the “thank you list” is extensive.

Sofi invited people to visit the website for the full list of donators, sponsors and volunteers.
