A huge cycling festival which held its inaugural event in Harborough last year is returning for a second time.

The Harborough Festival of Cycling, which is again sponsored by Alden Electrical, is designed for all ages and standards and comprises a 100km, 50km and children’s cycling, and takes place on Sunday, April 3.

The 100k is for more experienced cyclists whilst the 50k is designed for cyclists keen to try out a sporting event.

Beginning on the grounds of Robert Smyth Academy, the route will again take riders out into the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire countryside.

Entry fees are £25 and £20 respectively and include a T-shirt and goody bag for all finishers.

Amy Kingston, from organisers Race Harborough, said: “We are really excited that the Festival of Cycling will be returning for a second year and that all ages and abilities will be able to take part again.

“The event attracted great feedback from participants and we have moved the timing of the race back almost a month so the weather is likely to be milder but not too hot.

“Due to the popularity of the 2015 event, we have increased capacity by 50 per cent to accommodate the large number of additional registrations that we have experienced in the ‘pre entry’ phase of the race.”

Proceeds from this event will go to support Adam’Smile.

To find out more or to register a place visit www.raceharborough.co.uk. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis with registration closing around one week before the event.

For children aged between four and 12, there will be free children’s coaching sessions available on the day. These ‘Go-Ride’ coaching activities have been designed to introduce young people to cycling skills and disciplines.

Times for the children’s coaching are; 10.30-11.30am or 12.30pm-1.30pm for under eights, and 11.30am-12.30pm for over nines. To book, email info@raceharborough.co.uk.

Race Harborough has organised many sporting events in the area over the past two years including the Harborough Triathlon and Santa Run.
