Family miraculously escape serious injury after their car hit a tree in the Harborough district

A family-of-four miraculously escaped serious injury today (Wednesday) when their car hiti a tree in the Harborough district.

The terrifying drama happened when the red five-door hatchback left the road in Keyham, near Scraptoft, on the north-west tip of the Harborough district.

Two shaken-up children in the vehicle were taken to hospital with “minor injuries” as police, ambulances and firefighters dashed to the scene.

These dramatic pictures of the battered motor were taken by Richard Hall, an assistant chief fire officer at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

He tweeted the images from the scene after attending the incident on Ingarsby Lane, Keyham, just after 7.30am today.

As the incident unfolded, Mr Hall said: “Tactical Response Vehicle responding to a young family involved in a collision with a tree on Ingarsby Road. Lucky escape.”

And the senior firefighter urged people to drive safely and make sure their child seats are properly secured.

“Please drive safely and ensure child seats are securely fastened,” stressed Mr Hall.

The Tactical Response Vehicle attended the crash from nearby Billesdon fire station, the fire service said.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 7.37am today by East Midlands Ambulance Service to a report that a car was in collision with a tree.

“Two children were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary by land ambulance with minor injuries.”

The devastating impact of the collision left the written-off car with its bonnet up, seriously crumpled at the front, a shattered windscreen and the front passenger door caved in.
