Mr O’Brien has made his pledge after visiting fed-up residents affected by the massive David Wilson Homes development in Market Harborough.

The Conservative met Mike Major, deputy chairman of Burnmill Farm Action Group, days after being re-elected as local MP in the general election.

Mr O’Brien said: "I went out to meet residents and campaigners and to have a look at the trouble that’s been caused.

“I saw the problems for myself and this has been another glaring example of bad practice by developers.”

He added: “I’ll do all I can to support residents and end this devastating flooding as soon as we can.”

Mr O’Brien also said he’d be striving to improve drainage in Bates Close and Kingston Way after weeks of torrential rain.

Gwen Compton, 58, of Kingston Way, said: “We’re very pleased that Neil came out to talk to us.

“He walked around our streets and he could see these serious issues for himself first hand.

“He was very sympathetic and we are delighted he’s getting behind us.”

She also welcomed a new investigation launched by Harborough District Council into the crisis.

The inquiry will also target flooding caused by David Wilson’s massive new Fleckney Fields estate in Fleckney.

“The council has responded to our complaints and our problems.

“We’ve had months of this nightmare now because David Wilson hasn’t done this properly,” said Gwen.

“We all just want this flooding issue to be sorted out now before we suffer any more hell.”

She said three construction vehicles were also parked on nearby busy Alvington Way just feet from signs banning them stopping.

“These huge monsters were there all weekend creating a big problem for local traffic,” said Gwen.

“They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.”

A spokesman for David Wilson Homes East Midlands said: “We apologise to those affected by the heavy rainfall and related flooding at our Burnmill Grange and Fleckney Fields developments.

“We would like to reiterate that we are doing all we can to help resolve any issues, including working closely with Harborough District Council to review the drainage strategies.”

As for the parked-up construction vehicles, he added: “We believe the parked vehicle belongs to a haulage company which had completed a job on a different site - and at the time was in no way associated with us.

“We can confirm that our site team and key contractors at Burnmill Grange have been reminded of the approved construction traffic route.

“We will investigate the matter and the appropriate action will be taken against those failing to comply with the plans.”
