Gwen Compton, 58, urged Harborough council to step in to block the Burnmill Farm scheme until David Wilson Homes set up proper drainage.

She spoke after Kingston Way, where she lives, was flooded last Friday afternoon (Dec 6) following torrential rain.

Outraged Gwen, of Burnmill Farm Action Group, said: “I could hardly believe my eyes – it beggared belief.

“So much water ran down from the building site at the top of our road that it turned our street into a canal.

“Some of our neighbours’ gardens were transformed into rivers.”

She said David Wilson Homes vowed to carry out remedial work after having a temporary stop notice slapped on the project by council chiefs.

“If they have then they’ve achieved nothing.

“It’s as bad as ever here if not worse,” insisted Gwen, who runs her own cake-making business.

“We just seem to get hit by one mini-disaster after another.

“We’ve had a digger digging up huge mounds of earth which stinks so we’re not sure what’s going on.

“The council should force David Wilson to lay down tools until they have completed an effective run-off pond and installed a drainage system that works.

“We needed wellies on before we could leave our homes to walk around on Friday as water gushed everywhere.

“We’ve got neighbours who’ve lived here more than 20 years and never seen anything as horrific as this.”

Harborough District Council said they are working with the housebuilder in a bid to tackle the growing crisis at the controversial 128-home blueprint.

A council spokesperson said: “We continue to investigate reports of flooding in the Kingston Way area of Market Harborough.

“We are liaising with David Wilson Homes which is building at the nearby Burnmill Farm site.”

A spokesperson for Coalville-based David Wilson Homes East Midlands said: “Remedial works are currently being carried out on Kingston Way to not only resolve the existing flooding issues but prevent further floods occurring.

“As a five-star housebuilder, we are working in accordance with the approved plans for the development and will continue to help however we can moving forward.”
