Demand soars at Redrow site

A development that has caused controversy among its neighbours is proving to be no bar for generating interest among prospective home-buyers.

A developer says its Rockingham View development has proven so popular that sales are now considerably ahead of build.

The Redrow Homes estate, near Glebe Road in Little Bowden, which will eventually total 141 homes, has been at the centre of much debate in the last year.

Residents in Glebe Road, have endured flooding several times since 2012 as run-off water from the nearby housing development site flooded their street. A protest march in August 2013 urged Redrow to tackle the flooding issue.

But, to date, Redrow has sold more than double its target and is already receiving enquiries about homes that will not be ready to be occupied until next spring.

However, it said that as mortgage offers are usually only valid for six months, no formal reservations are currently being taken on these.

Redrow has launched an Early Bird scheme to offer a solution for those who are keen to own a new home at Rockingham View, known locally as Windy Ridge..

Buyers can pay a £500 refundable deposit giving them first refusal on their preferred property when it is eventually released for sale.

Redrow will then keep them updated during the waiting period.

Tonia Tyler, head of sales for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), said: “The launch of Rockingham View was hotly anticipated and coincided with improving market conditions.

“The homes have been a great success – so much so that we’ve sold more than twice as many as we’d anticipated and we’ve had to temporarily stall sales while the build programme catches up.

“The next phase won’t be ready to move into until next spring, but buyers can make what we call Early Bird reservations on these.

“They will have the peace of mind of knowing that the home they want is here for them when everyone is ready.

“It also gives them time to prepare for their move.”

Homes at the site range from two-bed for first-time buyers up to substantial family homes with up to five bedrooms.

There are just a few properties available that will be built by the autumn including a four-bedroom detached Stratford-style home priced from £289,950.

Inspired by the architecture of the arts and crafts era, the properties look traditional from the outside but inside are bright and modern with a high specification as standard. Kitchens are well equipped with integrated top-brand name appliances while bathrooms and en-suites boast quality fixtures and fittings.
