Police had to remove trespassers from a specially-protected reservoir near Harborough.

Officers based at Market Harborough were drafted in after the picnickers turned up at at the private part of Eyebrook Reservoir, near Uppingham, over the bank holiday weekend.

They helped the Eyebrook warden escort the mixed group of men and women off the SSSI – special site of scientific interest.

Police have warned that no one is allowed to go on to the reservoir because it’s private land and home to vulnerable or protected species.

There were also issues about them breaching the lockdown laws as they stood at the time.

“There is no excuse to be in the grounds.

“And be warned that if your dog disturbs any of the protected species then the fine will be massive,” said Harborough police.
