One of Leicestershire’s “most wanted burglary suspects” was caught by police in Market Harborough on Sunday night.

The 19-year-old teenager was arrested on Kettering Road, Harborough, after he was spotted by a sharp-eyed off-duty police officer.

PC Malc Roberts was on his way home after completing his shift when he noticed “suspicious activity” on Springfield Street.

The extra-vigilant cop immediately alerted his colleagues at Market Harborough police station on Fairfield Road.

Officers raced to the scene and detained the suspect on nearby Kettering Road at 9.25pm on Sunday night, Leicestershire Police said.

The teenager was still in custody at midday on Monday as he was quizzed by detectives about six counts of burglary and theft.

Harborough police said: “Attended Springfield Street in Harborough tonight (Sunday) after our PC Roberts saw on his way home after duty some suspicious activity.

“This diligence resulted in one of our most wanted burglary suspects being arrested.

“Great teamwork 24/7.”
