A woman from Harborough has had over £23,400 refunded by her bank after she had her life savings stolen by swindlers at Christmas.

She was clinically targeted by the ‘DPD parcel re-delivery’ scammers in December after she inadvertently clicked a scam link in an email and gave her bank details.

The criminals then phoned the 44-year-old woman, who lives near Market Harborough, and posed as bank staff to plunder all of her cash.

The devastated victim, who wants to remain anonymous, had been saving it since she was 16 to buy her first home with.

She’s now got all of her savings back weeks later after she insisted her bank should have spotted the scam as she had alerted them and closed one of her accounts after becoming suspicious.

The shaken-up woman said she felt “massive relief” and now aims to move on and buy a house after winning her fight for justice.

She also branded the scam “very scary” as she warned people across Harborough to be extra-vigilant.

Meanwhile, police investigating the fraud are to take no further action.

An Action Fraud spokeswoman said: “The report was assessed by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau at the City of London Police, which found there were not any leads that would result in a successful criminal investigation at this time.”
