A Harborough district man is launching a national crimefighting campaign after his beloved motorbike was stolen.

Arron Manchester, 33, has roared into action after his Yamaha YZF 125 machine was taken outside his late dad David’s home.

Enterprising Arron has set up a high-powered nationwide social media drive called 2Hot2Handle2020.

And he’s already notched up over 500 followers while one of his new posts has racked up an astonishing 13,000 views.

Arron told the Harborough Mail: “We have got off to a great start.

“Too many criminals get away with stealing far too many motorbikes.

“I want to redress the balance – and make it much harder for the crooks.”

The digital media specialist said he was inspired to act after his motorcycle was taken near his recently-deceased dad’s home in Asquith Drive, Kibworth.

The Yamaha was stolen between 2am and 7am on Saturday May 9 as devastated Arron cleared out his father’s house.

“I just thought enough is enough.

“A British Motorcyclist Federation study shows that 1 in every 46 registered bikes in 2018 were stolen.

“From January 2015 to October 2018 over 45,000 motorcycle or moped thefts were reported in London,” said Arron.

“But only 1,200 people were ever charged with an offence.

“Motorbikes are too easy and too tempting to steal.

“That’s why I decided it was high time that owners fought back.

“I want to make stolen vehicles too hot to handle.

“Those looking to buy will be faced with ads showing stolen bikes of the same make and model.

“We’ll also make apparent any unique signifiers as they browse the market place.”

He said that should start to dry up the booming black market in stolen motorbikes.

“I’m very passionate about this and a lot of other motorbikers are equally passionate.

“Leicestershire Police are getting behind me,” said Arron.

“And they might use pictures of my motorcycle to front their own social media campaign.

“I am urging people who have had their motorcycles pinched to submit their details to my Facebook page.

“We’ll then highlight the thefts on ad campaigns that not only feature across Facebook nationally but also the top-selling websites such as Gumtree, Shpock, etc.”
