A care home worker has been jailed for two years and four months for sexually assaulting a woman in her home in Market Harborough while he was drunk.

Phillip George, 42, broke down and wept as he was locked up at Leicester Crown Court after subjecting his traumatised victim to a terrifying ordeal.

George, a key worker at a residential care home for the elderly, had drank at least a litre of vodka on the day he attacked the woman in her own house.

The woman was rescued by a heroic policewoman after she heard the victim’s desperate screams for help.

The courageous officer confronted George alone during the drama and suffered concussion after she was kicked on the back of her head.

George, who used to live in Market Harborough but was of no fixed address, admitted sexually assaulting a woman in the town on Tuesday June 30.

He also admitted two charges of assaulting emergency workers, the woman constable and a male police sergeant who was spat on.

Judge Robert Brown told George, who appeared via live video link from prison: "You may be 42 and of previous good character, but what you did on June 30 was serious and very wrong.

"You tried forcing yourself sexually on a woman in her home.

"Your intention was to have sexual intercourse with her as you pushed her backwards onto a bed and began groping her.

"She was understandably terrified - and she felt trapped.

"She thought you were going to rape her and kill her because of your behaviour towards her.”

Judge Brown paid tribute to the brave PC.

“She took the decision to courageously go in, instead of waiting for back up, because she could hear the distressed victim and she effected a successful arrest despite the fact you assaulted her quite seriously,” said the judge.

"You pinned her against a wall and also kicked out and your foot made contact with the back of her head during the course of a struggle as she overcame you."

Judge Brown told George he had suffered “mental health issues” after his marriage collapsed and he’d “developed a problem with alcohol”.

Elizabeth Dodds, prosecuting, said the victim genuinely feared for her life during the brutal sex attack.

She said the officer who went to her aid had only been in the force for 12 months and it was the fifth time she had faced violence already.

Gary Short, defending, said: "On the day of the offences he (George) had drunk no less than one litre of vodka.

"He's disgusted and appalled by his own behaviour and wishes to extend his apologies to all who were affected by it."

Mr Short said George has had alcohol detoxification and gone on a stress management course while on remand in custody.

As well as being jailed George was put on a restraining order banning all future contact with his victim.
