Two teenagers arrested after a young man of 18 was repeatedly stabbed in Fleckney have now both been freed on bail.

A 15-year-old boy was quickly detained nearby by police on suspicion of grievous bodily harm shortly after the attack on Thursday evening (August 20).

He was questioned by detectives before being released on police bail.

A boy of 14 arrested later on suspicion of grievous bodily harm has also now been freed on bail pending further police enquiries.

Police received a call just before 5.50pm on Thursday reporting that the 18-year-old had been stabbed in a park just off Edward Road, Fleckney.

Officers and East Midlands Ambulance Service, backed up by the regional air ambulance, raced to the village.

They found the victim with “multiple stab wounds”, Leicestershire Police said.

He was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for emergency treatment and has since been allowed to go home.

Police immediately sealed off the popular park as forensics experts scoured the scene for vital clues.

The cordon has now been lifted.

Police believe that an argument broke out before the teenager was brutally attacked in the normally quiet Harborough village.

Det Con Julia Brown, the investigating officer, said: “This is an extremely serious incident where a young person has suffered multiple stab wounds.

“Fortunately, the victim has been discharged from hospital and is recovering from his injuries at home.”

She said police are determined to crack down on “knife crime” across Leicestershire.

“Knife crime is a force priority.

“We are determined to get to the bottom of what happened and bring those responsible to justice,” said Det Con Brown.

“Despite the arrests our enquiries are continuing to establish exactly what happened.

“But we believe that an argument took place before the victim was stabbed.”
