Police have issued a warning to Audi vehicle owners after a spate of thefts from vehicles in a 48-hour period.

A total of 28 Audi cars parked in the county, including several in the Harborough district, had their front windows smashed and glove boxes searched between Monday and Tuesday this week. Some of the offences occurred in Kibworth, Harborough, Great Bowden and Great Glen.

Det Sgt 1570 Steven Hutchings, the lead investigator, said: “Although we can’t say for certain, we are looking into the possibility that the incidents may be linked.

“One line of enquiry that we are looking into is that the Audi’s may have been deliberately targeted to obtain an emergency key which can sometimes be found in the glove box.

“So far we believe the suspects may have been driving a black Audi estate. “We are advising Audi owners to check their glove compartments and remove emergency keys.”

Anyone with information about the thefts is urged to call the police on the 101 number.
