Armed police raced to a tiny village near Lutterworth on the afternoon of Sunday (July 26) and the force helicopter was scrambled after a man was reported to have fired a gun into the air.

The 999 drama was triggered just after 1pm when police were told that a man had been spotted toting a firearm on Main Road in the Harborough district village of Claybrooke Parva.

“It was also reported that the firearm had been discharged into the air,” said a Leicestershire Police spokesman.
