County carers' new programme

A county carers' organisation which has been supporting families in Leicestershire for 25 years is returning to Harborough to offer carers a new education programme.

The Leicestershire Carers Centre will be running a five-session programme called Caring With Confidence at the Evangelical Church in Bath Street, Harborough.

The sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm, with the first being held on Wednesday, March 2.

A spokesman for the Leicestershire Carers Centre said: “The Caring with Confidence programme is specifically for anyone who is looking after a chronically ill or disabled family member or friend.

“Caring can have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of a person’s health and wellbeing. Many people say they feel isolated, experience feelings of being unable to cope, unsure where to go for advice and support, or feel they are not being heard. Others say they would like the chance to meet others in a similar situation.”

The first session is an introduction to the five sessions, looking at how it can help carers in their role, as well as looking at the range of help and support available locally and how to access this. Topics covered in the other sessions are: Caring and Coping, Caring and Communicating, Caring day-to-day and Managing Stress and Life.

Sonia Bray, from the Carers Centre, said: “The feedback from carers attending the programme has been overwhelmingly positive.”
