Community comes together to help couple who lost everything in a fire

Since we featured the story on our front page about “Buffalo” Billy Wild (76) and wife Susan Wild (64) losing their home, many people have come forward after hearing their appeal for help.

Among them are colleagues at a Central England Co-operative Food Store in Market Harborough.

The food store donated a trolley full of essential items and treats for the pair as they try to rebuild their lives.

Manager Sean Clothier said: “One of the major parts of being a co-operative is about playing an active part of the community in which we serve.

“This was why when we heard about what happened to Billy and Susan we knew that we had to help out. So we put together a collection of essential items and treats to help them out during this troubling time.

“All of us here at Market Harborough Food Store and the community as a whole hope the pair quickly get back on their feet.”

The couple have been inundated with support since the fire and are now living in temporary accommodation. The Mail has taken calls from people wishing to donate.

Susan Wild said: “We are so grateful to Central England Co-operative and everyone who has helped us during this difficult time.

“It is so kind that the community can come together and support us – we cannot thank them enough.”

Radio station HFM and Specsavers in the town centre – who have donated glasses to Susan - are drop-off points for smaller goods for the family. Any cheques should be made payable to Susan Wild.
