Come Dine With David on TV tonight!

It wasn't the ideal preparation for an episode of the '˜TV dinner' competition Come Dine With Me. David Lynes, a company director from Kibworth Beauchamp, was entered for the competition by friends.

And a new kitchen he had ordered was only finally fitted on the day of the filming.

“The programme director was laughing when I was reading up the instructions on how to use my cooker on the day my guests were appearing” said David (58).

“He said ‘that’s really funny - pretend you don’t know.’ I said: ‘I’m not pretending!’”

Impressively, David kept his cool in his brand new kitchen, and served his guests a delicious three course meal of scallops on butternut squash, fillet of beef en croute and sticky toffee pudding.

So did he beat the other three contestants - Daljit from Coventry, Nicola from Rugby and Kirsty from Leicester - to win the £1,000 prize?

You can see exactly how David did by tuning in to Channel 4 tonight (Thursday) at 5pm, or at 6pm on C4+1 or on Friday at 7pm on Channel 4Seven.

The filming for this particular episode of the popular amateur chef series with the sarcastic voiceover was back in August 2015.

David, a company director at Aluminium Systems Ltd in Barwell, Leicestershire, was the fourth of the diners to prepare the meal for the other three.

He’d already enjoyed Indian food in Coventry, Italian food in Rugby and Caribbean food in Leicester, and decided to go for a British menu.

“Safe dishes for me, but done well” was what he was aiming at, he told the Mail this week.

The complication was his kitchen, only finally completed by the contractors on the day David was due to cook in front of the cameras.

“My wife Jakki, my children Matt (23) and Merryn (21), and friends were helping me shift furniture around until the morning of filming,” he admitted.

The filming itself lasts from 4pm until midnight at each of the four homes.

“That’s 32 hours of filming, condensed down into a three-quarters of an hour programme” said David.

“I think the four of us got on well, but it’s a lot of filming; we’ll wait and see what happened in the edit suite! And of course there’s that commentary - no one gets out unscathed!”
