Market Harborough’s Specsavers branch has announced that Voluntary Action South Leicestershire in the town will be its chosen charity for the next year.
VASL, which is based at The Settling Rooms in the Sainsbury’s car park, is delighted with the new arrangement.
Specsavers branch manager Barry Henning said: “I attended a business fair organised by VASL. I was so impressed with the range of their charity work that our staff decided to fundraise throughout the year to raise money for them.
“It makes sense to support a local charity that helps so many people.”
VASL supports more than 3,000 unpaid carers a year and helps to befriend many people in isolated rural areas in the district.
Mr Henning said: “I’m sure many people that are supported by VASL are also our customers, so it is nice to be giving something back.”
Maureen O’Malley, the general manager of VASL, said: “We are thrilled with the support. Specsavers now have our collecting tins and got the ball rolling by sponsoring one of our carers’ pampering days, donating £450.”
