A SIXTEEN-year-old girl put her best foot forward to help a Lutterworth businesswoman open a new shop catering exclusively for women with larger feet.
Louise MacLellan opened Lou Lou Shoes in Lutterworth in April, but in the run-up to launching her new venture ran a competition only open to teenagers with feet sized between UK 8 and 11 – the sizes she stocks.
Echo, who lives in Desford and has size eight feet, was chosen as the winner and was invited to choose a pair of shoes from the range on sale at the High Street shop.
But first she joined forces with the Mayor of Lutterworth, Tony Hirons, to cut the ribbon at the official opening ceremony with Louise.
Echo said: “I really enjoyed opening the shop with the mayor. I had a lovely day.
“I’m so pleased there is now a shop not too far from home where I can choose from a range of fashionable shoes.
“Usually, I spot a pair of shoes I like and then find they’re not available in my size. I’ve already seen several pairs that I would like so I am sure I will be a regular Lou Lou Shoes customer.”
The new business venture is a dream come true for Louise who hopes that women with larger feet will now enjoy shoe shopping and find a wide range of shoes from which to choose.
She said: “I am a size 10 and have found it really difficult over the years to find fashionable yet affordable shoes in larger sizes.
“My friends enjoy the experience of trying on shoes in shops but because of my foot size, my experiences have not been as enjoyable – with limited choice and often long journeys to find a shop specialising in larger shoes.”
Having been made redundant last year, Louise spent six months planning her new venture, sourcing shoes at affordable prices and a selection of bags, jewellery and other accessories.
