Burglars taking their hot weather chances

Police are advising Market Harborough residents to make sure their homes are secure at all times, after two “warm weather” burglaries on the same night.

Both burglaries involved entry by an unlocked window, left open in the good recent weather.

The first incident was at a house in the Alvington Way area of Harborough when an unlocked ground floor window was entered and cash stolen some time between 10.30pm on Thursday, July 17, and 8.30am on Friday, July 18.

The second incident took place some time between 11.30pm on Thursday, July 17, and 7am on Friday, July 18, at a house in the Fairway area of Harborough, when again an unlocked bathroom window was entered and cash stolen.

Police only released details of the incidents this week.

DC Melanie Fisher is investigating the incident in the Fairway area.

She said: “During both incidents windows have been left insecure and cash has been stolen.

“We would ask residents to think about the security of their homes at all times and ensure windows and doors are left secure even when the house is occupied.”
