Welcome to the 100 club!
That was the message to Winnie Dimbleby of Market Harborough at the town’s Welcome Club last week.
Centenarian Mrs Dimbleby celebrated the milestone with friends at the club for the over-60s, which meets at Harborough Catholic Church in Fairfield Road.
A shoe machinist from Rothwell, Mrs Dimbleby has been living in Market Harborough since 1981.
She has one daughter, one grandson, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs Dimbleby’s daughter Helen Davenport said: “We also had two ‘at-homes’, where more than 40 friends, family and neighbours visited her. She had a whale of a time.
“But what she was really waiting for was the message from the Queen, and she was so thrilled with the card and telegram.”
Mrs Dimbleby was formerly a member of the Townswomen’s Guild and was a keen bowler, competing right up to county level.
And she is amazed at reaching the centenary, smilingly asking friends and family: “How on earth have I ever got to this age?”
