The event saw Rotarians from 11 other clubs as well as guests from a number of organisations and the chairman of Harborough District Council join them.

Also present were the president of Robert Smyth Interact Club, Adrian Wawrejko, and the first president of Market Harborough Rotaract Club, Chris Wells.

The Rotary district governor, Geoff Blurton, presented Chris Wells with his official president’s badge, and congratulated him on being the inaugural president of the new Market Harborough Rotaract Club.

Rotaract is a service organisation, which has members aged between 18 and 30.

The district governor brought greetings from the worldwide Rotary International president to the Harborough club. He congratulated the club on starting the new Interact Club and Rotaract Club in the town, and on the very successful SwiMarathon event, which is on March 5 and 6.

The main speaker for the night was Channel swimmer Andy Dickson.
