A former Ashley man who was a First World War general and served as Black Rod in the House of Lords has had a book written about his life.

Two members of Ashley’s History Archive Group, Margaret Richold and Ros Gallant, attended a launch event for the biography of Lt Gen Sir William Pulteney, or “Putty” as he was sometimes known.

Sir William grew up in Ashley where his father was rector. Margaret and Ros helped the author, Anthony Leask, with his research.
