A new £180,000 cycle hub is being built at Market Harborough railway station.

The long-awaited 140-bike unit at the front of the building should be completed by next month.

And it comes after angry commuters have called for much better cycle storage facilities at the busy mainline station for months.

An East Midlands Railway spokeswoman said: “Over the last few weeks we have been assessing which of our projects can continue safely under the latest government guidance.

“I can confirm that work on Market Harborough Cycle Hub has now started.”

She added: “We believe that this project should be able to be completed within the current environment and we have an estimated completion of circa June, unless the current situation changes.”

East Midlands Railway, Department for Transport and Harborough District Council are bankrolling the scheme.
