The 1960s entertainment personality Carl Dane gave Harborough pubgoers a short demonstration of his strength 50 years ago this week.

He stopped off at The Cherry Tree Inn, Little Bowden, in late December 1964 ,where he showed he was still in trim at age 76 by driving a six-inch nail through a two-inch plank of wood with his bare fist. At the age of just ten years old, Carl was billed as a ‘boy Hercules’ and he proved his strength beyond dispute 66 years later.

He is pictured with Cherry Tree licensee Mrs B M Perks, Mrs L Pickering and Mr E Busby.
