Service for Churchill

Market Harborough was to hold a memorial service for Sir Winston Churchill 50 years ago this week.

The interdenominational service, at St Dionysius Church in High Street, was to be held on Saturday, January 30, 1965.

Sir Winston, widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, died on January 24, 1965, after suffering a series of strokes.

The service was to be attended by district council chairman, Cllr R L D Crisp, and was to be conducted by the Rev L F Bowles, of Little Bowden, and the Rev F M Pollard, of Market Harborough Congregational Church.
